This semester we are excited to be speaking about our Church! We have started this year off strong, with new teens, great events like our kick-off, a dodge ball tournament and our car wash which is this Saturday, August 21, 2013 from 10:30am-2:30pm at the NOL site on Loyola. As for what we have been discussing, this past Sunday was an issue night, we spoke about the media's negative effect on this world especially through music. I love singing but often times we get distracted by the great beat that we don't realize what we are singing about. Especially with the negative performances and horrible role models found in the music industry, we spoke about paying attention to lyrics and listening to music that reflects our beliefs and who we are.
This semester we will be going deeper into our faith. We will be discussing different situations in this world and how they affect us as a church. We will also be talking about what we believe, why we believe it. We want the teens to start questioning their faith in a positive way and help them discover for themselves that the Church truly does contain all truth. We want them to be proud of our Church, and to allow the Holy Spirit to come and guide them and help them to stand strong against all this world makes them face. To fall in love with our Church, to understand the beauty that lies in our Faith, the history, the passion, the Love! To understand more about Christ, Mary, Angels, Saints, the Mass and the Eucharist; the Source and Summit of our faith. We want our teens to be able to know all of this so that they can defend our Catholic faith and be a witness to all they meet. I invite you all to come every Sunday to learn, have fun, eat, and above all get closer to your creator and father.
We have different events planned this Semester. Our biggest event will be our retreat called SACTIFY- Called to be a Saint, this retreat will be held November 1-3, 2013, more information to follow. I invite you all to go deeper in prayer, and as a family! I will be praying for each of you. God bless you
We are pleased to announce our first EDGE- Middle School Retreat!!! Saturday, August 28, 2013 at the Nativity of our Lord Auditorium on Loyola from 8:45am-5pm. As we start our second year of Edge ministries I've come to realize more and more the importance of introducing teens to our Lord at a young age. I'm not speaking about a text-book definition of who Jesus is but i'm speaking about kids knowing what it means to have a relationship with God. To see our faith not as a subject but a belief, to see the Catholic Church as truth. This semester we are speaking about our Creed, a prayer that states our beliefs, which we say every Sunday but is often overlooked. We will be taking it line by line and speaking to them about what it says and why we believe this. We want to challenge them, we want them to ask questions and come to the realization that this is truth because they believe it not just because they are told to. Middle-school is a difficult time, it is a time when kids are trying to figure out who they are, what is right, what is wrong, they are trying to find their place in this world, in their school and in their own homes. This is what Edge is meant to help them with. We want them to know their worth, to know they are special, to know they are loved, that they are chosen and that God has a perfect plan for them (Jeremiah 29:11). We want them to see that even in their suffering they are never alone, for God is always by their side. This world is full of temptations, starting at a very young age! I am sometimes shocked listening to some of the kids stories of violence, sex, drugs, and abuse. We all need more of God, and it is your job as parents to guide them and help them go deeper into their faith. Edge and specifically this retreat is a great way to do this.
Inside-Out is a retreat meant to help them to discover their faith in a personal way. It will be a day filled with games, activities, food, testimonies, confession, Adoration, small groups and ending with the Sacrament of the Mass which we encourage the parents and family to attend at 4pm. We want them to ask the basic questions of who am I? Do I like the person I am? What do I need to change? what do I believe? why do I believe this? and What can I do to be a better person? This retreat will be led mostly by teens in High School, that will be speaking about their experience and things they have learned. This is also a great opportunity for kids to be surrounded by other people who believe in the same thing and are on the same page. I highly encourage you to bring your child and have them bring their friends! It's Just $20.00 and I promise they will have a great time, all they have to do is be open to all that the Lord has in store for them. So bring them to EDGE every Tuesday at 6:45pm-8pm at the SEAS Trailer and to our INSIDE-OUT retreat. You are in my thoughts and prayers always.
